Sticky Fingers Bakery: Some of Vermont’s Best Cinnamon Buns Are Near Mount Snow

Jump to In this guide

There’s something about starting a ski day with a warm cinnamon bun, especially when it’s generously sized, covered in cream cheese frosting and fresh from a local bakery. And if you’re skiing at Mount Snow in southern Vermont, there’s one stop I’d recommend making before heading to the mountain: Sticky Fingers Bakery  Local favorite: Sticky Fingers Bakeryin West Dover.

Located along Route 100, just a few miles from Mount Snow in Southern Vermont, this small roadside bakery has earned a devoted following for its enormous cinnamon rolls, buttery croissants and freshly baked pastries. But it’s the cinnamon buns that keep people coming back, and I’d argue they’re among the best in Vermont.

If you’re planning a winter getaway to Mount Snow, consider this your reminder to leave a little extra time for breakfast.

Sticky Fingers Bakery: A Must-Visit Near Mount Snow

Southern Vermont has no shortage of great places to eat, but Sticky Fingers has become a favorite among skiers, snowboarders, locals and visitors exploring the Deerfield Valley.

The bakery has been serving the West Dover community for well over a decade, building its reputation around freshly baked breads, pastries and, of course, its signature cinnamon rolls.

There’s nothing particularly elaborate about the experience. You’ll find a small bakery with a display case full of baked goods, the smell of cinnamon in the air and customers stopping in to grab breakfast before getting on with their day.

And that’s part of the appeal. A great bakery doesn’t need to be complicated when the pastries speak for themselves.

Are These the Best Cinnamon Buns in Vermont?

I have a soft spot for a really good cinnamon bun. Not one that’s dry or overwhelmingly sweet, but one with soft, buttery dough, plenty of cinnamon tucked into every swirl and frosting that complements the pastry rather than overpowering it.

Sticky Fingers Bakery’s cinnamon rolls check all those boxes.

They’re generously sized, with layers of tender dough and cinnamon filling, finished with a thick coating of cream cheese frosting. The exterior has just enough structure to hold everything together, while the center stays soft and rich.

If you’re lucky enough to get one while it’s still warm, even better. The frosting softens into the swirls, and every bite delivers that combination of cinnamon, butter and sweetness that makes a great cinnamon roll so satisfying.

They’re substantial enough to share, although I wouldn’t necessarily recommend that approach.

Vermont has some excellent bakeries, but Sticky Fingers belongs in the conversation when it comes to the state’s best cinnamon buns. It’s certainly a contender for my list of favorite Vermont baked goods.

The Perfect Breakfast Stop Before Skiing at Mount Snow

Part of what makes Sticky Fingers so appealing is its location.

Mount Snow is one of southern Vermont’s most popular ski destinations, drawing visitors for skiing, snowboarding and winter weekends in the Deerfield Valley. Sticky Fingers sits just a short drive from the resort, making it easy to incorporate into your morning before hitting the slopes.

The bakery opens at 7 AM on its regular operating days, so you can stop in early, grab a cinnamon bun and coffee, and still have plenty of time to get to the mountain.

And if you’re traveling with family or friends, it’s an easy breakfast option that doesn’t require sitting down for a full meal before skiing.

My recommendation? Stop at Sticky Fingers before heading to Mount Snow, pick up a cinnamon roll and grab an extra pastry for later. After a few hours on the mountain, you’ll be glad you did.

Just remember that this bakery is popular, particularly on winter weekends. Arriving early gives you the best chance of getting your first choice before the display case starts to empty.

What Else Should You Try at Sticky Fingers Bakery?

While the cinnamon buns are the main attraction, don’t overlook the rest of the bakery’s offerings.

Sticky Fingers is also known for its croissants, including classic butter croissants and chocolate and almond varieties. A good croissant should have a crisp, flaky exterior with delicate, buttery layers inside, and these have developed a following of their own.

You’ll also find a rotating assortment of baked goods that may include:

  • Freshly baked muffins, including blueberry varieties
  • Fruit-filled Danish pastries and apple turnovers
  • Cookies and other sweet treats
  • Fresh breads, including sourdough and focaccia
  • Cakes and seasonal baked goods

The selection changes, so I always recommend seeing what’s available when you arrive rather than planning your entire order in advance.

And if you’re staying in the Mount Snow area for a few days, grabbing a loaf of fresh bread or a few extra pastries to bring back to your accommodations isn’t a bad idea.

A Southern Vermont Bakery for Every Season

Although I particularly love the idea of visiting Sticky Fingers before a day of skiing, this isn’t exclusively a winter destination.

Route 100 is one of Vermont’s most scenic drives, particularly during fall foliage season, and West Dover is a great place to stop while exploring southern Vermont.

In autumn, pair a bakery visit with a drive through the Deerfield Valley, where the surrounding mountains turn brilliant shades of red, orange and gold. In summer, enjoy your pastries outside near the brook behind the bakery before continuing your travels.

Whether you’re visiting for skiing, foliage or a weekend getaway, Sticky Fingers is an easy addition to a southern Vermont itinerary.

Don’t Skip Sticky Fingers on Your Next Mount Snow Trip

I’m a firm believer that some of the most memorable food experiences in Vermont come from small businesses doing a few things exceptionally well.

Sticky Fingers Bakery is a perfect example. Its cinnamon buns have developed a loyal following for good reason, and the combination of soft dough, cinnamon filling and cream cheese frosting makes them a standout.

You don’t need an elaborate breakfast before a day on the mountain. Sometimes a fresh cinnamon bun, a cup of coffee and a little extra time in the morning are all you need.

If you’re visiting Mount Snow or traveling through West Dover, add Sticky Fingers Bakery to your itinerary. And if you’re on a mission to find the best cinnamon buns in Vermont, this is one bakery that deserves a spot on your list.
