Some of my favorite Vermont getaways are the ones where the accommodations give you a reason to slow down and spend a little more time on the property. A comfortable cabin, a beautiful piece of land to explore and a few thoughtful amenities can be just as appealing as an elaborate resort.
Foxglove Farm Local favorite: Foxglove Farmin Leicester, Vermont, offers exactly that, with a cozy log cabin tucked onto 70 forested acres between the Green Mountains and the Champlain Valley.
Located just south of Middlebury, this small working farm and homestead combines the comforts of a well-equipped vacation rental with opportunities to experience a little of Vermont’s agricultural traditions. You can walk through the woods, visit the chickens, explore the sugarbush and, during sugaring season, learn more about the maple syrup produced right on the property.
I love accommodations that connect you to the place you’re visiting, and Foxglove has plenty of that character.

A Log Cabin With All the Comforts of Home
Foxglove’s cabin has the rustic appeal you’d expect from a Vermont log cabin, without requiring you to give up modern conveniences.
Inside, you’ll find a full kitchen, private bathroom, gas fireplace and three double beds, making it an option for couples, families or a small group of friends.
I like having a proper kitchen when staying somewhere rural. There’s no need to head into town for every meal, and you can stock up on local groceries, prepare breakfast and enjoy a leisurely morning before deciding what to do for the day.
The gas fireplace is another welcome feature, particularly during Vermont’s colder months. After spending an afternoon outside, there’s something appealing about returning to a warm cabin, making dinner and settling in for the evening.
The property offers year-round accommodations, so it’s just as suitable for a winter weekend as a summer escape.

Explore 70 Acres of Vermont Forest
One of the biggest advantages of staying at Foxglove Farm is having access to the surrounding land.
The property includes approximately 70 acres of managed forest, with marked walking trails that guests are encouraged to explore. The owners are committed to responsible forest stewardship, managing the land with attention to wildlife habitat, water quality and long-term forest health.
I love that you don’t have to drive somewhere to get outside. You can walk out of the cabin and spend time exploring the woods, particularly during foliage season when the surrounding trees are filled with color.
The property is also a certified Tree Farm, and its sugarbush is recognized through Audubon’s Bird-Friendly Maple Project.
For anyone interested in Vermont’s working landscape, it’s a wonderful opportunity to see how a privately owned forest can support recreation, wildlife and agriculture.
Experience a Vermont Maple Sugarhouse
One of the more interesting features of Foxglove Farm is its maple sugaring operation.
Each spring, the farm collects sap from its maple trees and boils it over a wood fire to produce small-batch Vermont maple syrup.
Guests are welcome to explore the sugarbush, and the farm welcomes visitors to its sugarhouse during sugaring season, generally from late February through March.
I think visiting a Vermont sugarhouse is one of the best ways to experience late winter and early spring in the Green Mountain State. There’s something wonderful about the smell of boiling sap, the steam rising from the evaporator and seeing how much work goes into making a bottle of maple syrup.
And when the syrup comes from the same woods you’ve been exploring, it makes the experience even more interesting. You can also purchase Foxglove’s red maple syrup through the farm, making it a pretty fantastic souvenir to bring home.

Meet the Chickens & Shop the Farm’s Products
Foxglove is more than a cabin rental. It’s a small homestead that produces free-range eggs, fresh-cut flowers, maple syrup and handcrafted gifts.
Guests are encouraged to visit the chickens, which is a fun addition for families and anyone who enjoys spending time around farm animals.
The farm also sells handmade jewelry and knitted accessories created by Catherine, one of the makers behind Foxglove’s gift collection.
I love seeing small Vermont farms diversify their businesses with products made right on the property. And it’s fun to browse locally made goods rather than another generic souvenir shop.
The farm stand’s offerings change seasonally, so I’d recommend asking what’s available during your visit.

Exploring Leicester & Nearby Middlebury
Foxglove Farm is located in Leicester, a small Addison County town that offers convenient access to some of my favorite places in Central Vermont.
Middlebury is a short drive north, with a beautiful downtown, independent shops, restaurants and the Middlebury College campus. I’d recommend spending an afternoon exploring the town, stopping for coffee at Little Seed or Royal Oak and wandering along the Otter Creek.
Lake Dunmore is another nearby destination, particularly during summer when Branbury State Park offers swimming, paddling and access to hiking trails. For a more challenging outdoor adventure, hike to Silver Lake or explore the trails in the Green Mountain National Forest.
And don’t overlook Brandon, just south of Leicester. It’s one of my favorite smaller Vermont towns for browsing art galleries, antique shops and locally owned businesses.
Foxglove’s location makes it easy to enjoy the quieter side of Addison County while still having plenty of restaurants and activities within driving distance.
