A hot tub after a day outside adventuring, a sauna overlooking a babbling brook, and a bar you can walk to without leaving the property: The Village Inn Local favorite: The Village Inn in East Burke gives you plenty of reasons to make a weekend of it. Add an affordable place to sleep with a modern farmhouse feel, and this Northeast Kingdom stay becomes even more appealing. I love finding places where you can keep your plans simple and still feel like you’ve gone away.
The Village Inn sits in the heart of East Burke, close to Kingdom Trails Local favorite: Kingdom Trails and just a few minutes from Burke Mountain Local favorite: Burke Mountain. It’s convenient for a trip built around biking or skiing, but you don’t need either on your itinerary to enjoy being here. I would happily organize a weekend around a slow morning, a sauna reservation and whatever sounds good for dinner.

A Modern Vermont Inn That Still Feels Like Vermont
The inn has a cozy but polished feel, with a modern farmhouse aesthetic that fits its village setting. It feels Vermonty without relying on an overly rustic look, and the casual atmosphere makes sense in a town where people come to spend time outdoors. Comfortable common spaces give you somewhere to settle in beyond your room, while Dish Mill Brook and the backyard add another reason to linger on the property.
Rooms have private bathrooms, and the different bed configurations make the inn useful for more than a couples’ getaway. There are options for families and friends traveling together, including larger suites. I’d compare the individual room descriptions before booking instead of assuming every room has the same layout. That’s part of staying at a small inn: you can choose the space that makes the most sense for your trip.

Farmhouse Near Gives You More Space to Settle In
For a larger, more private stay, Farmhouse Near is the option to look at. This separate three-bedroom farmhouse sits in a quieter corner of the property, with access to the inn’s amenities. You get your own shared living space and kitchen, while the hot tub and on-site drinks remain close by. For a family vacation or friends spending several nights together, that arrangement has a lot going for it.
The farmhouse accommodates up to eight guests, with a king bedroom, queen bedrooms and additional bunk beds. A full kitchen means you can make breakfast before heading out or stay in for dinner after a long day. Outside, there’s a covered porch overlooking the vineyard and a private stone patio, along with riverside seating and a fire pit. I can picture a leisurely coffee here while everyone debates how ambitious the day should be.
One detail worth knowing: some upstairs sleeping spaces connect through an open loft, so they aren’t all fully private from one another. The farmhouse offers separation from other inn guests, but review the bedroom layout if privacy between members of your own group matters. It’s particularly appealing for families who want room to spread out and the flexibility to cook.
Make Time for the Hot Tub and Riverside Sauna
The hot tub is a perk I would use in almost any season, especially after being outside on a cold day. It’s reserved for overnight guests, so pack a swimsuit even if the rest of your bag is full of sweaters. I’m also firmly in favor of enjoying a soak without first earning it on a mountain.
The on-site sauna is operated by East Burke Sauna Club Local favorite: East Burke Sauna Club. Tucked beside Dish Mill Brook, it has large windows facing the water, so the setting is part of the experience. A chilly afternoon spent warming up here sounds like a good reason to take a Northeast Kingdom getaway all by itself.
Sauna sessions require a separate paid reservation, with preferred rates for inn guests. The sauna is also open to the public and is for adults 18 and older. Book ahead if it’s something you’re looking forward to, and bring your swimsuit and towels. You can read more in my guide to East Burke Sauna Club.

Hazel’s Tap Room and Food Within Walking Distance
Having Hazel’s Tap Room on the property makes staying close to home for the evening easy. The bar serves craft beer and wine, along with house-made frozen cocktails called “sloshies.” I like being able to head out for a drink knowing the trip back to my room will take very little effort. Tomassoni’s Bistro is on site, too, for pizza.
You can also walk to village eateries, with Café Lotti nearby for coffee and a casual breakfast or lunch. In rural Vermont, where “nearby” sometimes means another drive, being able to leave the car parked is a real benefit. Check restaurant opening days before your stay, particularly outside the busiest seasons, so you don’t build an evening around a closed kitchen.
Close to Kingdom Trails and Burke Mountain
Kingdom Trails access is just steps away, making the inn a convenient choice for mountain bikers. Burke Mountain is roughly five minutes away by car for skiing. Practical amenities include bike storage and complimentary guest laundry, both useful when your trip involves muddy clothes and another day outdoors. You can spend more time enjoying the area and less time driving back and forth.
What to Know Before Booking
The Village Inn is at 606 Route 114 in East Burke, with on-site parking. Check the inn’s website for current room rates and availability; prices vary by room and travel dates. I’d keep it on the list for an affordable Vermont stay, especially when the hot tub and walkable location are amenities you’ll use. Groups should compare Farmhouse Near with the cost of separate rooms.
Ask the inn directly about pet policies and accessibility for your specific accommodation before reserving. Families have several lodging options, though the sauna is adults-only. My advice is to leave some unscheduled time here. Between the brook and a hot tub soak, you may find that heading back to the inn becomes something you look forward to as much as heading out.
