Experience Winter Lights at Shelburne Museum

Now through January 6, 2024, grab your someone special, kids, and loved ones and head to Shelburne Museum for Vermont’s most festive light displays, Winter Lights. This experience is one best shared. Walking through a festive lights display is also a surefire way to get you in the holiday spirit!

What is your favorite lights display in New England?

Visiting Shelburne Museum for the Winter Lights Display

The Shelburne Museum campus glows with 18 imaginative light displays (many synced with music) for a memorable way to spend a winter evening. Stroll through the gardens and iconic structures on the campus. Find the train station with sound effects and smoke rising from it. Take in the awe-inspiring lights illuminating the 220-foot steamboat Ticonderoga. Climb the 1871 Lighthouse for a new vantage point for seeing the light-filled campus. Stroll through the Beach Woods (my favorite walk!) with the trees truly twinkling and set to beautiful music. Don’t miss the model train, Bostwick garden, the butterfly garden, and the view of the bow of the Ticonderoga, where the lights make it look like it’s in the lake!

Tips for Visiting Shelburne Museum for the Lights Display

The spectacular light show runs from 5-8PM most weekends from Thursday through Saturday in the holiday season. There are extended hours the days after Christmas.

Buy your tickets online. You can choose from a variety of dates and entry times. Simply show your barcode at the entrance in the gift shop. Adults are $15, kids 3-17 $10 and under 2 are free.

Timed entry is every 30 minutes. You can certainly make it through in 30 minutes… Although, I spent 45 minutes taking in the festive beauty (albeit, was not dressed warmly enough – bundle up!). There were a lot of kids and strollers, of course, at the early entries. If you’re looking for romance and more quiet, I would book a later entry time. Just ensure you give yourself enough time so you don’t feel rushed!

Shelburne Museum offering a Wednesday evening drive through from 5:30-8:00pm on November 9, December 6, December 13 and December 20 if you prefer to ride in the warmth of your car or have mobility challenges. A car-load is $65 for the drive through experience. Play your Christmas music, sip hot cocoa, and enjoy!

The paths throughout the campus are well maintained and decently lit, but you are walking on gravel at night and some uneven and sloped terrain. Many older folks utilized headlamps and walking poles for a bit more support, which I thought was a great idea to be extra careful.

On December 7, Shelburne Museum is hosting an Ice Bar at Winter Lights from 5:30-9:30pm with outdoor bars and food trucks around the campus.

Have you been to Winter Lights or plan on it? Enjoy the magic of the season!
