I have a hard time relaxing. I am my happiest when I have a full plate of to-dos and events lined up for weeks ahead. I thrive and feel most fulfilled when I’m being productive and GSDing as I like to say (ahem, getting shit done). But, every once in awhile, I need to give in and prioritize myself and my well-being for a few hours. Enter the deep-tissue massage. I am a huge fan of stress-busting and muscle-restoring massages. I try to treat myself at least quarterly. It’s amazing what even an hour of interrupted time to yourself can do, especially when you’re in a relaxing atmosphere. And, a bonus – your body is reaping the benefits. Until recently, however, I had never visited an actual spa. I had no idea the kind of blissful experience that would await meĀ at the Stoweflake Mountain Resort and Spa in Stowe.
The Stoweflake Mountain Resort & Spa
I had previously stayed at the Stoweflake Mountain Resort & Spa, yet I hadn’t experienced their spa. In full honesty, I had walked past it without any idea how expansive it was and how many treatments they offer. The Stoweflake Spa has 30 treatment rooms that are Asian-themed and offers more than 150 unique treatments. There are also private treatment suits, for a shared spa experience, with a two-person soaking tub, double shower and fireplace.
Inside the spa, there are cascading waterfalls, mineral pools, and sanctuary lounges. The lounges are gender specific and include comfortable lounge chairs, saunas, a steam room, and a jacuzzi tub, along with cucumber water, teas, and juices. Outside of the spa, walk into the 10,000 square-foot meditative garden, complete with relaxing water sounds. Within the exterior space, there’s a 4,000 square foot, seven circuit classical Labryinth for meandering.
The Aqua Solarium is a unique space, open to all genders. The room feels also like a green house with oversized windows and a ceiling that features an artistic skyscape. The Bingham Hydrotherapy Waterfalls cascade down a 12-foot rock into a pool with therapeutic hydro massage therapy. There’s also a Hungarian Mineral Soaking pool and ample lounge chairs throughout for reading or a quick nap.
Visiting Stowe, Vermont
Stowe is one of my favorite destinations close to home in Vermont. And the summer is actually my favorite time for a road trip over Smuggler’s Notch to the ski town. Stowe’s downtown is charming. There’s a five-mile bike path that’s perfect for a leisurely walk or bike cruise. The gondola on top of Stowe Mountain provides stellar views for miles and miles. The breweries and cidery (hello The Alchemist, Idyletyme Brewing, Von Trapp Brewing and Stowe Cider) make for a great Stowe beer tour. And the dining options are diverse and eclectic. The Stoweflake Mountain Resort and Spa is located on the Mountain road between the ski mountains and the downtown in a prime location.
Tips for Visiting the Spa at the Stoweflake Mountain Resort and Spa
- Make a day of it! The spa opens at 9:00am. You don’t want to be rushing around before your treatment (take it from me). Enjoy the indoor pools, sauna, steam room or the outside pool. Or, simply sit down with a book and unwind.
- Vermonters can book Sunday and Thursday and receive 20% off their service with a valid Vermont ID.
- Hydrate! The Stoweflake has the best cucumber water and tea selection to ensure you hydrate during your spa day.
- Want some vitamin D and sun? There’s a private women’s sunning area just off of the women’s dressing area.
