Best Garden Centers in Vermont to Visit

I could browse aisle after aisle of flowers in Vermont’s garden centers without a care in the world. Every summer, I carefully craft my hanging baskets and pots and planters for the upcoming season. Each year has a different theme – all with bright pops of color to counteract the gray we live with for what seems like six months out of the year.

I’m not sure if it’s the long Vermont winters, or perhaps the horticulturist genes in me, but I love nothing more than visiting Vermont’s garden centers. The burst of colorful flowers against the backdrop of lush green grass is one of my favorite simple pleasures.

I’m lucky that we have so many small businesses in Vermont that provide beautiful flowers to work with… So, I’ve rounded up my list of my favorite garden centers to visit in Vermont. Put these garden center on your list whether you’re starting a container veggie garden or overhauling your backyard landscaping.

Red Wagon Plants is always a spring destination for me to load up one of their red wagons with annuals, vegetables, and berry bushes for our garden. IMO, they have the best starters for herbs and plants in the state! “Growers of premium plants for the vegetables, herbs, and ornamental gardens in your life,” Red Wagon is a smaller (but mighty!) Vermont garden center. Community involvement is also important to Red Wagon. They frequently donate plants and host fundraisers to support community partners. Horsford Garden & Nursery, Charlotte, Vermont

Horsford’s is a must-stop in Charlotte for browsing their gorgeous fields of perennials outside. (Don’t miss The Old Brick Store for a sandwich if you’re making a road trip to check Horsford’s out!).
