My dad is notorious for being a Christmas Eve holiday shopper. Now, my mom growing up (and still) is the predominant gift shopper and wrapper for our family. Yet, every year, my dad drives into the town of Middlebury to find one special gift for everyone on his list. Sweet Cecily tops his list for quirky, locally made items that everyone always loves. From art work and jewelry to rugged Vermont socks and pottery to gag gifts, it’s one-stop shopping to get what he needs. If you’re prone to procrastination but still want to support small businesses and shop local, here are some of my favorite Vermont shops for last-minute holidays gifts.

Birdfolk Collective
Winooski, Vermont and Waterbury, Vermont
Birdfolk Collective, with locations in Winooski and Waterbury, and now a sister shop of Trinket on Church Street in Burlington, is the go-to shop for the females in your life. Think of Birdfolk Collective as a brick-and-mortar Etsy-type shop with collections of awesome jewelry, apparels, candles, art work, soaps, lotions, home decor items, games and more. They also carry a great selection of punny cards and gifts for the babies or kids in your life as well.
Common Deer
Burlington, Vermont
Common Deer might be my favorite small shop in Vermont with all made-in-the-USA items. Located a block off of Church Street, Common Deer boats endless gifting possibilities. There are many home decor items and self-care gifts, along with plenty of Vermont-made goodies, all sourced by 300 US producers. It’s an awesome spot to pick up some of my favorite Vermont brands too: Farmhouse Pottery, Ursa Major, Skida, Red House, etc. They also have foodie gifts from Butternut Mountain Farm, Big Picture Farm, Halladay’s Harvest Barn, Fat Toad Farm. And the list goes on. I could spend hours perusing all of their eclectic, small-sourced items.
Sweet Cecily
Middlebury, Vermont
By far, Sweet Cecily has the most diverse gift selections of all of the cute stores in downtown Middlebury. From artwork and pottery to jewelry, candles, handy life-hack accessories, gag gifts, and home decor items, Sweet Cecily carries a diverse selection of hyper-local gifts. I, personally, love the Vermont license plate prints from Native Vermont. The mismatched sock are awesome for stocking stuffers and super cozy.
Vermont Flannel Company
Burlington, Vermont; Ferrisburgh, Vermont; East Barre, Vermont; Woodstock, Vermont; Johnson, Vermont
Vermont Flannel is the best quality flannel I’ve ever gotten my hands on. It is spendy, but you can feel good about supporting Vermont-made flannel that’s made to last. Their flannel products are really versatile as well. From $5 “beer hugs” coozies to wine bottle bags to flannel shirts, hoodies, pajamas, blankets, scarves, scrunchies, dog collars and jackets, tote bags, and baseball caps, they have something for everyone on your Vermont Christmas gift list.
Cabot Farmers’ Store / Cabot Annex
Waterbury Center, Vermont
For the cheese lover and foodie in your life, the Cabot Annex in Waterbury Center is a must-stop. Besides cheese samples galore and a kick-ass selection of Vermont cheeses from more brands than just Cabot, the Cabot Farmers’ Store has a wide variety of Vermont-made food items, from jams and jelliers, to beer and wine, to self-care lotions and salves. In the same complex, you’ll also find Smuggler’s Notch Distillery, Danforth Pewter, Birdfolk Collective and Lake Champlain Chocolates. So it makes for an easy one-stop to tick off a number of last-minute gifts on your list.
