# Lemon Fair View: A Sourdough Farmstand in Cornwall, Vermont

By [Erin McCormick](https://travelikealocalvt.com/author/travelikealocalvt/) · Published October 31, 2026

Some of my favorite Vermont finds happen when I’m not actually looking for anything.

I was driving around the corner from my parents’ home in Cornwall when I spotted a little roadside stand just off Route 125 advertising sourdough bread and baked goods. It’s no secret that I’m a sucker for farmstands, honor-system stores and small family-run operations, so there was essentially zero chance I was going to keep driving.

I pulled over.

That was how I found [Lemon Fair View Homestead](https://www.facebook.com/p/Lemon-Fair-View-Homestead-100066372017009/), a family-run microbakery and roadside farmstand near the Cornwall-Bridport line that’s become one of my favorite stops in this part of Addison County.

Sourdough is the specialty, but don’t assume that means you’re simply choosing between loaves of bread. Depending on what Kaitlin Rheaume has been baking, you might find sourdough cinnamon rolls, English muffins, scones, homemade Pop-Tart-style pastries, pizza dough, pretzel bites and other sweet and savory treats alongside traditional and flavored sourdough loaves. There are local cheeses and milk in the cooler, sourdough starter for anyone ready to attempt their own loaf at home and enough good stuff packed into this little stand that I’ve learned it’s better to stop early.

Because I’m apparently not the only one who brakes for sourdough.

## Meet Lemon Fair View Homestead

Lemon Fair View Homestead is the creation of Kaitlin and Steve Rheaume, high school sweethearts who moved to their property on the Bridport-Cornwall border about a decade before opening the stand.

Starting a farmstand had long been on their list of things they wanted to do. The couple wanted to make more things from scratch and involve their four children in homestead life, but with young kids, the idea remained on the someday list for years.

In the meantime, Kaitlin, who is also a nurse, kept baking.

Sourdough became a hobby, and she regularly shared loaves with friends. Then her grandmother Joy died in 2023, and Kaitlin made a decision to spend more time doing the things that actually brought her joy. Baking bread was one of them. Opening the farmstand was another.

So Kaitlin and Steve stopped waiting.

They built the little stand and opened Lemon Fair View Homestead on May 1, 2025 with eight loaves of bread.

Every one sold.

I love knowing that story because it makes this tiny roadside stop feel even more representative of what I enjoy about [Vermont farmstands](https://travelikealocalvt.com/vermont-farmstands-local-dairy/). There wasn’t a huge commercial launch or elaborate storefront. A family wanted to make things themselves, share them with their community and see what happened.

And people showed up.

## Sourdough Is the Star at Lemon Fair View

If there’s one thing you should know before visiting, it’s that Lemon Fair View is serious about sourdough.

The Vermont-licensed, family-run micro home bakery specializes in sourdough baking, but Kaitlin takes the concept well beyond the traditional loaf.

You’ll find classic sourdough bread alongside rotating flavored loaves, which means it’s worth checking what’s been released before you visit. If you’re staying nearby or heading home after a Vermont road trip, grab a loaf for the next morning and toast it with good Vermont butter.

That’s the easy choice.

The more difficult decision comes when you start looking at everything else Kaitlin has figured out how to make with sourdough.

## Don’t Stop at the Bread

This is where Lemon Fair View gets dangerous for carb lovers.

Depending on the day’s selection, you might find sourdough English muffins, cinnamon rolls, scones, pretzel bites and homemade Pop-Tart-style pastries alongside the bread.

There’s also sourdough pizza dough ready to become dinner, which I highly recommend grabbing if you’re heading back to a vacation rental or planning a weekend pizza night at home. Add some local Vermont cheese and whatever vegetables happen to be in season, and you’ve just turned your farmstand stop into dinner.

The pretzel bites are another easy road-trip snack, although I’ve learned that anything purchased with the intention of “saving it for later” has a relatively low survival rate once it’s sitting beside me in the car.

That’s particularly true of the sweet stuff.

## Take Home Sourdough Starter and Make Your Own

If Lemon Fair View inspires you to finally become the person who casually says, “Oh, I baked this sourdough myself,” you may be able to start before you even leave the stand.

Look for sourdough starter among the offerings.

It’s a fun addition because it turns the farmstand into more than somewhere to buy Kaitlin’s baking. You can bring a little of the process home and attempt your own.

Whether your future loaf comes out looking like something from an artisanal bakery or an oddly shaped bread rock is between you and your starter.

No judgment here.

And if it doesn’t go well, Lemon Fair View is open 24/7.

## Grab Some Hyper-Local Vermont Cheese

One of the things I particularly like about Lemon Fair View is that the stand isn’t limited to what the Rheaume family produces themselves.

You’ll also find products from other nearby Vermont farms, including cheese from Bridport Creamery.

And when I say nearby, I mean it.

Bridport Creamery produces artisan cheese in Bridport using roots that go deep into the local dairy community. Its specialties include fresh cheese curds and Swisserella, a cheese that’s mildly nutty like Swiss but creamier like mozzarella.

My recommendation if you spot them at Lemon Fair View? Get the spicy curds.

They’re exactly the kind of salty, squeaky road-trip snack that pairs very well with the next item you should pull out of the cooler.

## Add a Monument Farms Chocolate Milk

If you’re exploring this part of Addison County and haven’t had a Monument Farms chocolate milk yet, let’s fix that.

Monument Farms Dairy is just up the road in Weybridge and has been producing milk in Vermont since 1930. The family-run dairy bottles its own milk, and its chocolate milk has developed a particularly devoted local following.

You’ll find Monument Farms products around the region, and spotting the chocolate milk in a small local farmstand always makes me happy because it turns a snack stop into a little tour of the surrounding food system.

You’ve got sourdough baked in Cornwall, cheese made in Bridport and milk bottled in Weybridge.

That’s a pretty good Addison County road-trip snack haul.

## How the Honor-System Farmstand Works

Lemon Fair View is self-serve and operates on the honor system, which means there’s no need to plan your visit around traditional bakery hours.

The stand is currently open 24 hours a day, seven days a week, with payment accepted by cash, Venmo and local check.

That doesn’t mean I’d recommend waiting until late in the day.

Popular items sell out, and this is still a small family-run microbakery rather than a grocery store with endless inventory. If there’s something specific you’re hoping to find, keep an eye on Lemon Fair View Homestead’s social media for current releases, specials and restocks.

Otherwise, I think it’s more fun to arrive without a strict shopping list.

See what’s there.

That’s how I found the stand in the first place.

## Make It Part of an Addison County Backroad Drive

Lemon Fair View is located at 4048 Route 125 in Cornwall, near the Bridport town line and not far from Snake Mountain Road.

This is one of my favorite parts of Vermont to simply drive around.

The landscape opens into farmland with long views toward both the Green Mountains and Adirondacks, and you’re close to some excellent hiking, farmstands and small-town stops without the traffic you’ll encounter in some of Vermont’s better-known destinations.

If you’re up for a hike, Snake Mountain is nearby and offers one of the best effort-to-view ratios in Addison County. The summit looks west across farmland toward Lake Champlain and the Adirondacks, making Lemon Fair View an extremely convenient post-hike reward.

You can also continue into Middlebury for shops, restaurants and a walk through downtown, head west toward Bridport and Lake Champlain, or turn the whole thing into a leisurely Addison County food crawl.

I’d argue that bread, cheese and chocolate milk are a perfectly respectable foundation for an itinerary.

## A Vermont Farmstand Worth Planning Around

The funny thing about Lemon Fair View is that I originally found it entirely by accident.

Now I think about it when I’m planning which way to drive.

That’s the sign of a good roadside stop.

You start out pulling over because you see a sign for sourdough. Then you discover cinnamon rolls and pretzel bites, grab pizza dough for dinner, add some locally made cheese and a chocolate milk, and suddenly this little stand on Route 125 has become part of your routine.

It’s also a reminder that some of the most interesting Vermont food experiences aren’t necessarily restaurants with reservations or destinations with huge signs.

Sometimes they’re a small wooden stand beside the road, built by a family that decided it was finally time to do something they’d been talking about for years.

So if you find yourself driving Route 125 through Cornwall, keep an eye out.

And if you see the sourdough sign, pull over.

## What to Know Before Visiting Lemon Fair View Homestead

Lemon Fair View Homestead is located at 4048 Route 125 in Cornwall, Vermont, near the Bridport town line.

The self-serve farmstand is currently open 24/7 and accepts cash, Venmo and local checks. Because Lemon Fair View is a small family-run microbakery, specific baked goods and local products change and popular items can sell out.

I’d visit earlier in the day if you want the best selection and check the bakery’s social media for current releases and specials before making a special trip.

Then leave some extra room in the car. You’re probably buying more than bread.
