# A Waterfront Brewery With Some of the Best Beer in Burlington, Vermont

By [Erin McCormick](https://travelikealocalvt.com/author/travelikealocalvt/) · Published October 24, 2026

If you asked me to choose my favorite brewery in [Burlington](https://travelikealocalvt.com/category/destinations/burlington/), I’d probably send you straight to [Foam Brewers](https://www.foambrewers.com/?utm_source=travelikealocalvt&utm_medium=referral&utm_campaign=foam-brewers-burlington-vermont).

I’ve visited just about every Vermont brewery in Vermont. And Foam stands out for its diverse beer selection and consistently good brewws. I appreciate breweries that do more than produce a dozen variations of hazy IPAs, and Foam delivers with excellent stouts, sours and creative releases alongside its hop-forward beers.

The location doesn’t hurt, either.

Right on Burlington’s waterfront, just steps from [Lake Champlain](https://travelikealocalvt.com/category/destinations/lake-champlain/) and the Burlington Bike Path, Foam has a funky, inviting taproom with outdoor seating, regular live music and a small food menu. It’s somewhere I’ll happily stop for a beer after spending time downtown.

And while Burlington has plenty of excellent breweries, **Foam gets my vote for the best combination of quality and variety.**

## Foam Brewers: A Burlington Brewery Right on Lake Champlain

Foam Brewers opened in 2016 at 112 Lake Street, in a former industrial building near Waterfront Park. The location is a big part of its appeal. You can walk over from Church Street Marketplace, stop during a bike ride along the Burlington Bike Path or make it part of an afternoon exploring the waterfront.

There’s ample public parking in the surrounding area, including nearby lots and street parking, although spaces can be harder to find during summer weekends and major waterfront events. Parking fees and restrictions vary.

I particularly like visiting during warmer months, when the outdoor seating is open and there’s plenty happening along the lake. The waterfront is a short walk away, so you can easily grab a beer before heading down to watch the sunset over the Adirondacks. It’s the perfect sunset date spot!

## The Beer: Why Foam Gets My Vote

I’m not someone who orders the same beer every time I visit a brewery. I like trying different styles, and that’s where Foam really delivers.

They’re particularly well known for their hazy IPAs, with beers such as Built to Spill helping establish their reputation. If you enjoy juicy, hop-forward beers, you’ll have plenty to choose from.

But I’d argue that Foam’s broader selection is what makes it one of Burlington’s best breweries.

Their stouts can be rich and decadent, particularly when they release darker, higher-alcohol offerings. I’m also a fan of their sours, which provide a welcome contrast to the IPAs that dominate so many Vermont tap lists.

The menu changes frequently, and I appreciate being able to visit several times throughout the year and find something different to try.

My advice? Order a few smaller pours if they’re available. It’s a good opportunity to sample a beer style you might not ordinarily choose.

## A Funky Taproom With Plenty of Personality

Foam doesn’t feel like a traditional brewery or a polished restaurant pretending to be one.

The space has an industrial, creative atmosphere, with artwork, communal seating and a mix of locals and visitors. It’s casual enough to stop in after a bike ride but also a fun place to meet friends for an evening out.

There’s usually a good amount of activity, particularly during weekends and summer afternoons. If you’re looking for somewhere quiet and intimate, Foam probably wouldn’t be my first recommendation during its busiest hours.

Personally, I like the energy. The space feels relaxed and welcoming, and there’s always something interesting happening.

## Live Music and Events at Foam Brewers

Another reason I enjoy Foam is its commitment to live music.

The brewery regularly hosts musicians, DJs and other events, adding to the creative atmosphere of the space. Depending on the evening, you might find a local band or a touring artist performing.

It’s worth checking the [Foam Brewers event calendar](https://www.foambrewers.com/?utm_source=travelikealocalvt&utm_medium=referral&utm_campaign=foam-brewers-burlington-vermont) before visiting, especially if you’re hoping to catch a particular performance.

Some events may have separate admission or ticketing arrangements, so check the details before heading over.

## Small Bites to Enjoy With Your Beer

Foam also offers a small food menu, making it easy to grab something to eat while sampling a few beers. The offerings have included sandwiches, cheese slates and other casual bites that pair well with the beer selection.

I appreciate having food available without the brewery feeling like a full-service restaurant. It’s a good option for a casual afternoon or an early evening drink before heading elsewhere for dinner.

Menus can change, so I’d check the current food offerings if you’re planning to eat during your visit.
